Greene County Crash Injures Two Elderly Women

A two-vehicle crash Thursday night sent a 91-year old driver and her 86-year old passenger to Springfield hospitals after as a result of an inattentive driver. The crash occurred around 9:40 PM Thursday at the intersection of Republic Road and County Road 135. 17-year old driver Chase Starbuck pulled his Ford Explorer directly in to the path of a vehicle being driven by 91-year old Bonetta Renshaw. Renshaw was driving on County Road 135 when Starbuck attempted to make a left turn from Republic Road on to 135 in front of Renshaw. The vehicles collided, causing severe impact to Renshaw and her passenger, and sending Starbuck's vehicle off of the road. As a Greene County car accident lawyer, we see this happen all the time.

Both Bonetta Renshaw and her passenger, Margie Moore, were taken by ambulance to Springfield area hospitals to be treated for their injuries. Renshaw's vehicle was towed from the scene due to substantial structural damage. Starbuck was reportedly uninjured and his vehicle was driven from the scene.

Missouri roads, highways, and interstates are covered with drivers who have only been driving a short amount of time as well as drivers who have decades of experience behind the wheel. It is unknown at this point what caused minor Chase Starbuck to pull out in front of oncoming traffic, but fair speculation includes driver inexperience, inattention, and/or distraction while driving. Often times we see young drivers faced with obstacles such as these, which trigger accidents ranging from minor to severe injury – even fatality. The lack of experience young drivers have is typically demonstrated through accidents where young drivers state reasons such as cell phone use, reaching for something, or being in a hurry to get somewhere.
